Transitions can be particularly difficult for adults with developmental disabilities and behavioral challenges. Damar provides services to support a wide range of needs.

Independent Living, Community Support

For some adults Damar serves, living independently out in the world presents unique challenges. But they’re not insurmountable—and Damar provides the support people with disabilities need through our Community Living and Support Services (CLASS) program.

Through CLASS, Damar helps adults find the right living situations and take on appropriate responsibilities. We assist families, caregivers, and individuals in identifying the right home setting—alone, with family, or with roommates—then provide help as needed with daily tasks and responsibilities. We can also provide life-skills training, employment support, and other services—all with the aim of helping the people we serve realize their potential, fulfill their dreams, and live increasingly meaningful lives.

24-Hour Support Services

Damar provides on-call support services, funded primarily through Indiana’s Community Integration & Habilitation Waiver and Family Support Waiver. Applications and eligibility determination for Medicaid waiver services can be obtained from the Bureau of Developmental Disabilities Services.

Less-Than-24-Hour Additional Services

Damar provides these services as necessary to ensure our clients are safe, secure, and living successfully. They are funded primarily by Indiana’s Community Integration & Habilitation Waiver and Family Support Waiver, as well as CHOICE. Applications and eligibility determination for Medicaid waiver services can be obtained from the Bureau of Developmental Disabilities Services. To learn about applications and eligibility for CHOICE, contact the Area Agencies on Aging.

Group Community Integration

These services help groups of individuals obtain, keep, and strengthen the skills they need to participate in the community and function independently outside the home. Activities could could include accompanying clients to the grocery store or restaurants, teaching them how to enjoy appropriate social and recreational options, and assisting them in other activities of community life.

Individual Community Integration

Damar works one on one with each participant to help develop the skills needed to become a part of a community. Participants learn about appropriate social, recreational, and leisure activities as they receive guidance on matters such as accessing the public library, using a local community recreation center or public transportation, and more.

Referrals and Intake
