What Is a Medicaid Waiver?

Medicaid waivers help fund the services Damar provides to help people with disabilities live more independent lives. Indiana provides Medicaid waivers for a variety of needs, including but not limited to intellectual and developmental disabilities, autism, traumatic brain injury, and the aging and disabled. Damar is an approved Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) accredited provider for:

  • Community Integration and Habilitation
  • Family Supports
  • Traumatic Brain Injury
  • Aged and Disabled

Damar is also an approved provider for Money Follows the Person (MFP) and CHOICE programs.

Money Follows the Person (MFP)

Indiana’s MFP program is funded through a federal grant from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. It’s designed to help people move from institutional settings to home- and community-based settings. The MFP can provide funding for many of the services provided by Damar. CHOICE

Indiana’s Community and Home Options to Institutional Care for the Elderly and Disabled (CHOICE) program provides funding for home- and community-based services to assist individuals in maintaining their independence in their own homes or communities for as long as is safely possible. CHOICE is for people age 60 and older or people who have a disability and are at risk of losing their independence. Damar can help you determine whether you qualify—or you can find out more about CHOICE at IN.gov.

Medicaid waivers are a way to fund services and support for children and adults with intellectual, developmental, and behavioral disabilities.

What Is a Waiver?

Medicaid waivers provide funding for children with developmental disabilities to receive services and support at their home, in a group home, or in a community setting. 

Through our accredited Community Living and Support Services (CLASS) program, Damar provides a full continuum of highly individualized and life-changing supports for children and families. We work with our clients, their families, and other services agencies to empower those we serve to achieve personal independence.

Indiana provides Medicaid waivers for a variety of needs, including Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, Autism, Traumatic Brain Injury, and the Aging and Disabled. Damar is an approved CARF accredited provider for the following waivers:

  • Community Integration and Habilitation
  • Family Supports
  • Traumatic Brain Injury
  • Aged and Disabled

Damar is also an approved provider for Money Follows the Person (MFP) and CHOICE.

Money Follows the Person

Money Follows the Person is a grant-funded program that helps people with developmental, intellectual, and developmental disabilities return home after a stay in an institutional setting. Indiana was approved for this program in 2007, and can now assist eligible residents in leaving institutional care and transitioning to living safely within their chosen communities.

Community and Home Options to Institutional Care for the Elderly and Disabled (CHOICE)

The CHOICE program provides community- and home-based services that helps those with disabilities remain in their homes and retain their independence for as long as possible. As an approved provider, Damar helps older residents ages 60 and up to remain safely in their homes with the added benefit of ongoing support.
