Counseling Services

Damar provides both in-home and in-office counseling services through caring and compassionate counselors who have the training and expertise to provide effective treatment to children, adults, families and groups working through a host of issues ranging from conflict resolution to sexual maladjustment and interpersonal stress.

All clients on campus are evaluated for their counseling needs, and provided with a personalized blend of the following services:

• Individual Therapy One-on-one work with a master’s level therapist to address issues such as anxiety, depression, sexually maladaptive behaviors and anger management concerns.

• Group Therapy Therapist-led experiences in which groups of children with similar issues are invited to discuss issues and practice pro-social behaviors. Group topics can include grief and loss, survivor issues, art therapy, adventure based counseling and social skills just to name a few.

• Family Therapy With the goal of increasing positive family interactions, master’s level therapists invite family members to meet to discuss their experiences, and practice positive change with their children. Family therapy sessions can occur on campus, but are generally encouraged to occur within the family home environment.

Medical Services

High quality medical services are available through Damar Services and can be accessed through most of our service delivery options and service lines.

Physician and Pediatric Services

In partnership with Riley Hospital and Indiana University Medical Group, Damar employs and contracts with primary care physicians. Physicians are on the main campus every week and engage in health screening, wellness reviews, and sick-child interventions. Parents are invited and encouraged to attend all physician appointments with their children. Children may also be seen with the support of Damar staff members as long as consent in provided by the parent or guardian. Physician services can be accessed through any of Damar’s service options and service lines.

Damar encourages the use of community-based physicians if at all possible. Damar maintains relationships with a number of physicians in local communities to facilitate services for individuals in their own communities.

Psychiatry and Neurology Services

In partnership with Riley Hospital and Indiana University, Damar employs and contracts with board certified child psychiatrists and neurologists. Psychiatry and neurology services are available on a weekly basis and can be accessed through all service options and service lines at Damar.

Damar also contracts with or is in partnership with local private practice practices psychiatrists and nurse practitioners. Damar encourages the use of community-based physicians if at all possible. Damar maintains relationships with a number of psychiatrists and nurse practitioners in local communities to facilitate services for individuals in their own communities.

Nursing Services

Damar employs a number of full time registered nurses and licensed practical nurses. Nursing services are available through outpatient, residential, community support, group home, and transitional living services. Each child residing at Damar is assigned a specific nurse who monitors all medical needs and services for that child.

Pharmacy Services

Damar partners with a number of community pharmacies to provide medication and medication delivery services. Medications can be ordered and delivered on a daily basis for all service option and service lines at Damar.

Psychological Evaluation and Consultation Services

Damar employs doctoral level psychologists in outpatient, community-based, and residential treatment services. Psychological services are available through referral to assist with differential diagnosis, psychological testing, academic difficulties, and various mental health and/or medication needs.

Recreation Services

Damar clients benefit from individualized recreation plans, which include opportunities to participate in Special Olympics and other community-based activities. Recreation facilities on our campus include an indoor pool and fitness center, state-of-the-art gymnasium and performing arts center, several playgrounds, athletic fields, basketball courts and walking trails.

Dietary Services

Damar takes pride in providing nutritious, delicious meals (three times daily) and snacks (twice daily), and makes every effort to accommodate doctor specified diets such as diabetic or low calorie meal plans. Likewise, our dietary department actively participates in programs designed to teach and reinforce healthy lifestyle practices for residents and staff.

Special Events

Damar hosts a variety of unique and exciting special events throughout the year such as Wild West Day, Fair Day and holiday parties, bringing a festive atmosphere to the campus for our residents and encouraging family and community involvement.

Resource Team

Resource Team includes a select group of specialists dedicated to maintaining a safe and secure campus living environment for the staff and clients at Damar. These professionals assume a leadership role during all crisis interventions and are highly trained in customer service, verbal de-escalation, physical management and community response techniques.
