Wednesday - October 08, 2008Damar offers free child ID cards to public on Oct. 18Hearing about child abduction unsettles any parent and a local organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of children with disabilities and their families is raising awareness about child safety in central Indiana and providing parents with a free tool to help protect their children.
Damar Services, Inc. in conjunction with K-ID’s BMV Inc. is providing free child identification cards and parent safety kids to the public during the Damar Kid Card Community Day event Saturday, Oct. 18, from noon–2 p.m. at Damar’s residential campus, 6067 Decatur Blvd. The Damar Kid Card resembles the Indiana-issued driver’s license or state identification card and includes the child’s color photo, digital thumbprint, a detailed physical profile and emergency information if a child goes missing. Statistics show a child in the U.S. goes missing every 40 seconds, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and the Indiana State Police Missing Children Clearinghouse reports that 478 children are currently missing statewide. Data also shows that 85 percent of U.S. parents do not have a current photo of their child and one-third don’t know their child's exact height, weight and eye color. The Damar Kid Card is recommended for children ages 2-15 and should be updated annually. “We believe that the Damar Kid Card is a convenient and effective form of child identification that can help save valuable time in the search and rescue process, and improve the odds that children will be found and returned safely to their families,” said Greg Johnson, Damar President & CEO.
