Vice President and Chief Operating Officer
Dr. Jim Dalton, vice president and chief operating officer of DAMAR Services, Inc., has long made his impact on the developmental disabilities industry. A licensed child psychologist with more than 20 years in the field of child and adolescent behavioral health, he has served as a clinical consultant, evaluator, researcher and administrator.
Before joining DAMAR’s executive team in 2002, Dr. Dalton was director of Behavioral Health Services at Community Hospitals of Greater Indianapolis and COO of Lutheran Child and Family Services. In the late 1990s, Dr. Dalton was a special educational consultant to the Indianapolis Public Schools. He also has provided private practice clinical consultation in the Indianapolis area.
After earning a bachelor’s degree in psychology at Anderson University, Dr. Dalton attended Spalding University in Louisville, Kentucky, where he earned a master’s in psychology and graduated first in his doctoral class in child psychology. Both his pre-doctoral internship and post-doctoral residency programs were completed at the Ohio State University School of Medicine, where he also served as an adjunct professor of pediatric and clinical child psychology.
Dr. Dalton has provided insightful and positive leadership in the mental healthcare field –particularly in the field of clinical child psychology – through innovative practices in child psychiatric residential care and as a co-founder of IN-AJSOP, Indiana’s credentialing and certification program for professionals serving youth with sexually aggressive behaviors.
In 2005, Dr. Dalton was appointed as the Child Psychologist representative for the Governor’s Commission on Abused and Neglected Children in the State of Indiana. Additionally, he has been a driving and directional force in a groundbreaking research initiative to assist primary care physicians in directing patients with mental retardation and other challenges to appropriate resources in the community.
Highly regarded for his innovation in child behavioral health care, Dr. Dalton is often called upon to serve as a keynote speaker and presenter for state, local and national industry conferences.
