Mission and Philosophy

We invite all of you to join us in our Mission:

We build better futures for children and adults facing life’s greatest developmental and behavioral challenges.

What drives DAMAR Services?

State mental institutions or a neglected life on the street. Up until the latter half of the 20th century, these sad options were a fact of life for those with developmental disabilities, particularly if they were coupled with severe behavioral challenges. In the late 1960’s, the founders of DAMAR Services demanded a different option. Today, DAMAR is known as the last best hope for many children, particularly those with complex behavioral challenges like severe ADHD, aggression, oppositional defiance and other conduct disorders.

In short, DAMAR is unique in that we serve those whom other disability service providers are either unable or unwilling to serve. We gladly champion these individuals, focusing on potential and independence in a community, not seclusion. Our professional staff cheerfully tackles the near-impossible and achieves superb results – in our residential program, 93 percent move on to a more independent setting. DAMAR’s viewpoint? All people – including those children and adults with developmental disabilities further challenged by severe behavior – have the right to live their lives with an empowered opportunity to reach their fullest possible potential.

Actively reflecting our living Mission Statement, we build better futures by first imagining the potential of those we serve, engaging in best practices to help re-direct them, and then achieving success together for children and adults facing life’s greatest challenges.

Imagine. Engage. Achieve.
Developmental disabilities. It’s everybody’s issue.
