Coordinator of Training and External Affairs

Christopher R. Akers serves DAMAR Services, Inc. as the coordinator of training and external affairs charged with managing the organization’s community-based training and outreach programs.

Mr. Akers joined DAMAR’s staff in 1995 as a direct support professional and was promoted to a behavioral specialist in the clinical department in 1999. He maintains his connection with the children Damar serves as a mentor for young men who have transitioned from DAMAR’s residential campus to more independent settings within the central Indiana community.

A seasoned trainer and public speaker on topics such as team building, verbal intervention and dual diagnosis, Chris’s uses an effective and energizing blend of humor and practical wisdom to capture his audiences and inspire every individual to reach new levels of achievement.

Chris draws on more than a decade of professional experience assisting children with intellectual disabilities to provide consulting services to industry organizations and youth mentoring programs across Indiana, including Head Start and the Pike County ARC.

A champion for children with disabilities, Chris is a member of the Governmental Affairs Committee for the Association of Rehabilitation Facilities’s (INARF) and serves as an advisor on IARCCA’s Public Policy Committee. He is a longtime volunteer for Special Olympics Indiana and board secretary for the United Northwest Area Association.
