Every day, the professionals at Damar share in the experiences of families that are supporting a loved one with an autism spectrum disorder.

The families’ stories are often as dynamic and varied as the disorder itself. What’s often common among them is that, although their children at early ages demonstrated behaviors most associated with autism, families were often blindsided by the diagnosis.

Autism now impacts one in every 100 school-age children and its hallmark characteristics can be noticeable as early as infancy. Yet, many families have little or no knowledge of the disorder’s most common symptoms.

With autism now the fastest growing developmental disability in the U.S., the chances of a family being impacted by autism are much greater than most people realize.

Damar is proud to join other organizations in raising national consciousness of the disorder. Likewise, we are privileged to help children and adults with autism achieve their fullest potential, and we know that early diagnosis of the disorder is among the many factors that can significantly improve treatment outcomes and the quality of life for those it impacts.
