Director of Educational Services
Dwight Ashley, Sr. joined Damar Services, Inc. in 2009 as the Director of Educational Services. Dwight directs all operations for Damar Academy — a state-accredited school serving nearly 200 students — with a focus on maintaining the Academy's compliance with federal and state education requirements, fulfilling students' Individual Education Plan (IEP) needs and leading the school's faculty and staff. A veteran educator, Ashley has extensive experience in teaching, administration, coaching and working with both traditional and special needs students. He came to Damar from the Indiana Department of Correction where he served more than 8 years as a teacher, standardized testing coordinator and administrator for the Indiana Women's Prison and the Indianapolis Juvenile Correctional Facility. He previously worked in Michigan, where he was a Social Studies and Spanish teacher, coached varsity athletics and academic clubs, and earned a Golden Apple Award for Teaching Excellence. He began his career teaching conversational English in Nyíregyháza, Hungary. Dwight's passion for world history and geography is evidenced by his extensive international travels to other countries, including Austria, Germany, Slovakia, Poland, Ukraine, Spain and Mexico. Dwight holds a bachelor's degree in history from Spring Arbor College and a master's in library and information science from Wayne State University. He received his school administrator's certification in educational leadership from Indiana University. Dwight resides in Danville, Indiana.
