“The last hope for many children,” is what many say about DAMAR Services. Why? Treating and caring for children and adults with developmental disabilities is plenty challenging in its own right. Couple this challenge with severe behaviors arising from ADHD, aggression, oppositional defiance, antisocial personality and other disorders, and you have a situation that many service providers are unable or unwilling to address.
At DAMAR Services, successfully addressing and treating these severe challenges is an everyday fact of life.
We have earned a solid reputation as a provider of choice in a very challenging field, and there’s a reason why.
Today, DAMAR serves several hundred children and adults with developmental disabilities and behavioral challenges throughout Indiana. Our research-based treatments and support services have been recognized regionally for their success – 93 percent of those in our residential program go on to a higher degree of independence. Through our DAMAR Best initiative, we actively identify and freely share best treatment practices. DAMAR’s online Autism Toolbox serves as a resource for parents and professionals.
About 41 percent of our 120 residents have been diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder and about 50 percent face challenges attributed to abuse and neglect. Indiana’s first and oldest private, not-for-profit organization providing residential services for children with developmental disabilities, DAMAR today also serves about 450 adults in the community.
